Malay food is usually strong, spicy and aromatic, combining with the rich taste of the different herbs and spices commonly found in Southeast Asia such as turmeric, laksa leaves, mustard seeds, and cinnamon sticks.

Malays would usually eat their food with hands and no implements are needed. Diners would usually scoop mouthfuls of rice onto their palms and then ladle the food into their mouths with the back of their thumbs.
A social etiquette between Malays that are commonly known as "The Salam" which is a greeting that is normally accompanied by a handshake. The handshake is a palm-to-palm touch with the right hands or sometimes both hands but never the left, the palms would then be brought to the heart as a gesture of sincerity. When it is between a younger and an adult, the young one would usually kiss the top of the elder's right hand as a form of respect.

Baju Kurung and Baju Kebaya are the traditional costumes that our Malay Women would usually wear. Baju kurung is a loose-fitting length dress, consisting of a skirt and a blouse. The blouse is usually collarless, long sleeves, and it would usually extend to between the hips and knees.
Whereas the Baju kebaya is a traditional blouse-dress combination, usually made from sheer material such as silk, think cotton or semi-transparent nylon or polyester, adorned with brocade or floral pattern embroidery. For religious purposes, sometimes a headscarf or "tudung" is worn together with the outfit.
As for the Malay Men, Baju Melayu is the traditional Malay outfit for them. It is a loose fitting shirt with long sleeves, worn with long pants with a "samping" which is wrapped around the middle of the body from stomach to knee. To complete the look, usually, the men would wear a "Songkok" or dark colored headgear will be worn.
